Capsule Wardrobe Experiment

Have you heard of a capsule wardrobe? The concept is simple. A small curated wardrobe with pieces that all mix and match together. Now…the concept may be simple but the execution…not so easy. I think in today’s society we are taught throughout life that having more things is a sign of success. Think about all of things you own. Although I’m not even close to a true minimalist, I definitely don’t like having a lot of things. I regularly purge our home – clean out closets, re-organize my kitchen, and purge, purge, purge. Even though I do this often, my wardrobe is still overwhelming to me.

I’ve been intrigued by a capsule wardrobe for some time now. Honestly, I use the concept of a capsule wardrobe every time I travel. I don’t like to check my luggage for many reasons. This forces me to really plan out what I’m going to pack, especially for longer trips. All of my pieces to need to mix and match so that I have the maximum number of outfit choices with the fewest pieces of clothing.

This leads me to my experiment. I’d really like to incorporate the capsule wardrobe idea into my every day style. I tend to wear the same things over and over, which leads to my frustration and overwhelm with my current wardrobe.

You will find several articles on capsule wardrobes online. All of them follow three simple concepts, follow a color story, have a specific number of items, and all pieces must mix and match. So, let’s get started!

We are just now starting to enter fall here in southeast Texas. Over the next two weeks, I’m going to curate my fall/winter capsule wardrobe. My main goal will be to curate the wardrobe from pieces I already own. First step, pick my color story.

I’ve picked my color story based on my current closet full of clothes. My base colors will be denim and black. Accent colors will be cream, blush, wine and hints of camel and gray. And, of course, my accent pattern will mostly be leopard. I LOVE leopard! So much! 😂

I hope you’ll follow along on my capsule wardrobe experiment! If you aren’t already, please follow me on Instagram. I’ll be sharing in my stories as I go through this process. Next update…closet clean out. Wish me luck!
