Aim Higher to Launch Further
My family and I recently returned from a a trip to Walt Disney World. While we were there we rode one of my all time favorite rides, Toy Story Mania. As you walk through the queue, you will pass many interactive areas as well as signs that show tips for achieving a higher score in the game. One of these was an Etch-a-Sketch that read, Aim Higher to Launch Further.
Now, obviously, this was referencing where you should shoot in order to hit a higher point target in the game. Throughout the game you are directly competing with the other members riding in your car. For the record, I have NEVER won this game against my family. LOL!! I simply don’t have a chance against two young men who have played video games their entire lives. Seriously, Pac Man did not prepare me for this type of quick action gaming. But, I digress.
This simple phrase, aim higher to launch further, has stayed with me since our return. It keeps repeating itself in my head, day after day. Aim higher to launch further. Aim higher to launch further. Aim higher to launch further.
Ask any child you know, what is your biggest dream? You will hear all sorts of answers. I want to be an astronaut. I want to be a ballerina. I want to be a fireman. I want to be a Major League Baseball player. I want to be a master chef. Ask an adult, what is your biggest dream? I want to… You’ll get some basic answers. I want to go to Hawaii. I want to pay off my mortgage. I want to retire at 55. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we forgot how to have big dreams. Audacious dreams that challenge our limits, both in mind and body. What can’t the 50 year old woman become a master chef? Why can’t the 50 year old man become an astronaut? Why can’t you have big, audacious dreams?
YOU CAN! Simply give yourself permission to think outside your box. Think outside of the box you’ve created. You can aim higher to launch further!
Sure! Paying off your mortgage is amazing! Kudos to all of you that have already accomplished this! But…what is your real dream? Dreams aren’t necessarily practical. How do you envision your best life? What are you doing in that life? What kind of job do you have? Where are you going? Where are you living? What kind of food are you eating? When you envision this life, this version of yourself, that becomes your dream. That best version of you, doing the things that you love. Focus on that higher dream! Aim higher! If you aim higher you’ll launch your dream into the stratosphere.
My biggest dream is to travel the world. I want to go EVERYWHERE! And, I have a plan. A dream will not manifest itself. You must have an actionable plan. Start with your dream and map the stars to that dream one actionable step at a time. I encourage all of you to aim higher to launch further. What is your biggest dream? And most importantly, what is your plan for making that dream happen?
To infinity and beyond…
